Acquire is a simple, but addictive game. I couldn't get thru college 25 years ago without the gang meeting in my dorm room after supper for our nightly game. It still is a staple of my latest gang's gaming sessions. Its still so popular that its one of the first Avalon Hill games that Hasbro reissued after Hasbro bought AH. Its popularity is easy to understand; it can be played by non-gamers, is easy to learn, and can be played in an hour or so depending upon the number of players. Its an economic "win with the most cash" game. Its a somewhat abstract simulation of buying stock in hotel chains and then trying to control and merge into bigger chains. There are no dice as play is based upon drawing numbered tiles which you strategically place on the board for potential hotel chains. It has a good mix of strategy, tactics, and luck for beginners and experts.

A classic game that has changed in appearance, but stood the test of time and now is older than many of its fans.

This is one of the most played games of our family - from the time our (now grown)children were still at home. We still play this game when we get together, and all of our kids have bought this game for themselves. It's a great game (after you the learning curve, the first time you play). We recommend it!

Strategy Hint: While some people use the strategy of praying for the best tiles, far better is to manage your money so you don't run completely out. The key to this is to buy a few positions in the companies most likely to merge. These are the companies close to others, smaller than ones it is near, and hopefully in the center of the board. Save some cash to protect these positions, but don't battle someone richer than you unless they have to defend multiple positions.
